On Sunday, May 14th,
marking the 9th year after the arrest of Iran’s Baha’i community
leaders, the US State Department spokesman issued a statement protesting their
continued “unfair” and “illegal” detention and demanded the release of all
prisoners of conscience.
This statement described as unfair
the arrest and prosecution of these citizens “on charges of spying, insulting
the sanctities, propaganda against the Islamic Republic”, and condemned their
“harassment in detention.”
The dossier of these prisoners was
described by the US State Department statement as a sign of human rights
violations and, “The government of Iran must stop denying its people their
human rights and fundamental freedoms, including freedom of religion or
belief.”
